May love

Summer has found us finally here in Ontario and life is trucking along at a breakneck speed. We are in Gemini season so that means things feel good, they feel expansive but it’s also up to me to clear some space to feel sane.

Let me tell you some things that nobody else knows.

  • My VISA to tour the US came so THANK YOU to those of you who helped me get it. There is something amazing about feeling that my touring does not have to stop when I reach the border, and that all of the world is really available to me. That’s ONLY because of you. If you didn’t help me get this Visa, you also help by supporting me monthly so that I can pay for the VISA which is very expensive. THANK YOU.

  • We are moving. I am leaving my house of almost 20 years in St Marys Ontario. It’s the place I brought home by babies, the place I wrote Blackwinged Bird, recorded Space Oddity and wrote all of Business & Pleasure. But it’s also a place of a lot of drama and trauma. The doorway where my kid’s dad stood to leave us, the kitchen I could never keep clean enough for him, the backyard patio he would retreat to to talk to the other woman when my heart was in tatters. Yes, it is time to move on.

  • Michael, my true love and I, the cats, the hamster and fish are moving to London Ontario in the summer. My kids need more than the rural environment and if I’m honest, I do too.

  • We have mastered versions of our Queen Beach Killer Cat songs and I haven’t shared them with anyone but I want to share one with you: It’s in rare songs.

  • I’ve started University and I don’t know if it’s because it’s summer and they are cramming an entire course into a short period of time but it’s A LOT. I’m learning a lot, loving a lot but also wondering how anyone does this.

  • I’m launching a course this year in vocals and possibly some other magic that I know. This is a big undertaking but I’m ready and even though tech is what it is, it is a reflection of who we are, how we have grown so I’m kind of excited!

This week I’m absorbing myself with all things June Millington, from Fanny. Michael Colford has invited me to come to Boston Public Library to speak to June and I’m super excited. I will play bass on a tune with her and she’s a remarkable woman, who has put women’s music and issues above celebrity. She is 76! If you are around please come but you can also watch through the BPL’s livestream.

In hilarious news, my designer made a mistake with the design of the new Girl Versions album. He thought the album is called “Girl”. My mind immediately went to Tori …..”everybody else’s girl”…. So yes, Girl Versions the reissue is coming along.

I took a little moment to celebrate this past month’s appearance on The Naked Lunch where Michael McDonald weighed in on my cover of Real Love. I really did find him, finally, after all of this searching. I asked to be added to the Doobie Brothers tour dates up here in Canada only to be told they are doing “an Evening With” which is code for, “nice try”.

I love you all and am SO excited for you to hear Queen Beach Killer Cat. PS Can you guess who is playing the guitar solo on “Douchetown”? Add your guess in comments and you could win a prize!!!

There may not be a Zang for a while as we navigate our house move. However, I am always available if you need me to say hi or let me know how you are.
LOVE ALWAYS,

Emm
