HAPPY THINGS
HAPPY THINGS
With all the darkness going on in the world, I wanted to share some happy news headlines as well as a new song.
Last year, I was asked to write a song for the Dreamcatcher Project which was a performance put on by Confederation Centre in PEI. This song was inspired by a workshop I was a part of in Toronto earlier last year. Led by Toronto theatre guru Mary Francis Moore, a handful of young kids got together on their march break to talk about fear, breaking down boundaries and making the future better. I suppose you needed to be there, but it was quite awe-inspiring to see Mary Francis inspire everyone in the room to look up and stand tall and just talk about life openly. “Eyes Up" comes from an exercise we did where we all walked around in different directions and were encouraged to make eye contact with strangers. Strangers who eventually became friends by the end of the day.
Speaking of friends, this week I started a new collaboration with my friend Una Healy on a song for her. We wrote “Alarm Bells" for her last record, “The Waiting Game". If you haven’t heard it you can check it out here:
The new song we are working on has a bit of a Motown feel. She’s got that voice for soul, so it’s fun to write with her.
Canadian rocker Kim Mitchell emerged from the woodwork this week to say he had recorded a song we began about 13 years ago called “Anything Like You". I imagine it will be on his next record but I’m so excited because in 1986, I listened to “Shakin’ Like A Human Being" nonstop. Although I can’t recall our melody, I found this in my mail - something I had written to Kim in mid-writing. We shall see how much of this idea survived!
Video shoot for “Imagination" is scheduled for February 10th. I’m so excited! Frank will direct.
I’m slowly building a few solo tour dates for this year. Added this week were Stratford and Winnipeg….and I’m also….wait for it….planning to tour the US this year! If there are cities you feel I absolutely must come to, can you please leave a comment here?
Also, the best news of all is my best buddy and collaborator Karen Baer is getting on a plane tomorrow to visit. We have not seen each other in many years though we’ve been working closely on “Only of Earth” for a year. No doubt a video will follow for you guys.
And some housekeeping…we are at 52 members in the Insiders Club. Have they invented a way for me to hug each of you virtually yet? So grateful.
Soon I’ll be removing some of the old songs I’ve posted, so give them a listen now! This is just to keep content fresh and keep your experience as exclusive as possible.
Massive love.
