Noreaster Pending
Hello from the maritimes. i love it out here, the sea, the people, the food, the overall chilled-out-ness of the east coast.
i'll have some tour diaries for you eventually but for now i'll just sum up what's been happening.
In Fredericton, there is a sign on King St that forbids you to turn left into the Tim Hortons. It is attached to the stoplight and looks very official. A few doors down is Crumbs Cafe. Dirk Dillinger and Bill make everyone feel at home at Crumbs, even if no one knows what set times are and even if there is no dressing room. Mary asked me to pose with the sock she was knitting. Judy Blume had also posed with this sock. I was quite glad to pose with it, knitting needles still attached and all.
In Charlottetown, after a trip to CBC Radio, I slept a lot of the day away and that is the key to a good show sometimes. Although cubstar says I play better drowsy. I had never been to Baba's. It is upstairs and cozy and so far I think Lyle and I played our best there. In the morning we went to a bakery run by a German couple and it was the highlight of our trip. Lyle got a cookie that was very exceptional and tasted very fresh.
We got to see the ocean from Confederation Bridge a little better on our way out, as when we came in it was rainy and grey. Good thing we left when we did because the next day they were doing a simulated accident on the bridge. I don't like accidents, real or simulated.
We drove along the sea and saw all the old boats and boarded-up houses. Lyle called the trail we drove the barking starfish which I guess is not what tourism NB would call it.
Next stop was Sackville. We had a hard time trying to find a good meal there and I hoped John Mullane would help answer our question "where do the professors eat?" Lylo and I drove around and marveled at all the old houses. We rocked Struts Gallery (which has a bathroom which is home to the holy grail of H1N1 prevention, a 1L bottle of aloe vera Purell) and then drove through the night to Halifax.
All through this trip, the GPS has been screwing with us, sending us on weird routes and not understanding where the roads are. I resent having to use my brain in this modern world and if I have to fold out a map, I'm just going to lose it.
Today has been a chilled out day - well, not so chilled out getting up early for TV - but i went back to bed, Mike took me to Bubbles Mansion and then I had an interview with the very nice Casey D. Out to Bedford to see KB and now room service is here so I will check in with you later.
Show and storm tomorrow! Company House in Halifax! First Noreaster of the year! Snow! Rain! Rock n Roll! 8pm!
